The Beaches

You will be spoilt for choice, the famous sandy beaches of Saunton Sands, Croyde Bay, Puttsborough and Woolacombe are all within 10 miles of Little Clarendon. Ideal for families and surfers alike and wet suits, surf boards and other equipment can all be bought or hired close to the beaches, most of which also have surf schools.
Walking.
Exmoor National Park provides endless walks with spectacular scenery and wildlife. The Coastal Path is accessible all along the North Devon coastline with breathtaking views and on your doorstep are Braunton Burrows which form the largest sand dune system in the U.K. and is designated both as a National Nature Reserve and a UNESSCO Biosphere Reserve.


Shopping

Barnstaple is an attractive market town situated on the River Taw, with most major retail outlets available as well as the contrast of traditional and family run businesses. Visit  Butchers Row, with its butchers, fishmongers, bakers and greengrocers all selling local produce. The historic Pannier Market offers crafts, antiques and local produce on various days of the week. Most of the major supermarkets are in or around Barnstaple.
Places to eat.
Braunton has a good selection of restaurants, cafes and pubs, to cater for all tastes. The famous Squires Fish and Chip restaurant is a 5 minute walk away, as is The Corner Bistro which serves delicious locally sourced food. Chinese, Indian and Thai foods are all available in the village. Many of the restaurants in the area are known for their locally caught fish dishes.


Cycling


The Tarka Trail starts in the village centre, where bikes and equipment can be hired. The 34 miles of the Trail offers cyclists of all ages and abilities the opportunity to explore beautiful estuary and sea views with abundant wildlife and rural sightseeing as it trails south through Devon countryside. This off road cycle track has information boards giving history, wildlife, flora and fauna along the route and stopping places for refreshments.
Horse riding.
There are several riding centres to choose from locally, catering for all abilities. Trek through the beautiful countryside, or for the more experienced canter along the golden sands of Woolacombe.


Leisure

Barnstaple Leisure Centre offers an indoor swimming pool, gym, and badminton courts. The Tarka Tennis Indoor Centre enables enthusiasts to pick up their racquets, even on the rainiest of days and tuition is available. There are many activities for the very young to the not so young, in and around the area, with a range of brochures provided at Little Clarendon.

Golf


The renowned golf club at Saunton with two championship standard links courses is a five minute drive away. At Westward Ho! is The Royal North Devon Course, the oldest links course in England and only a 20 minute drive. There are several other courses within easy reach, all of which provide a friendly welcome to visiting golfers of all abilities.
